Happy New Year!! Athbhliain faoi Mhaise Dhaoibh go léir!

Athbhliain faoi Mhaise dhaoibh go léir!! Happy New year to all our guests and friends, we wish you every happiness and good health for 2016.

It is resolution time again and this year the resolutions are the same as every other year get fit and loose the weight!! Easier said than done especially when there is still a load of choccies and mince pies and other delights calling out to be eaten and after all waste not want not! The very idea of giving them up is hard so instead I have decided to take a positive approach and go walking every day. Cape Clear is a super place to go for a walk the views are stunning and while huffing and puffing my way up the steep hills and feeling the burn I can stop at the top and fell virtouous and admire the stunning views of Roaring Water Bay and the the Fastnet Rock. The temperatures have been quite mild so far and birds are singing in the trees so after a while I forget the effort and enjoy the fresh air and a bracing walk. The Gleann Loop offers stunning views and a bit of a challange so this year my resolution is to take some time every day to enjoy a walk and even on a bad day there is something to enjoy!

The garden is a bit battered now, the winds; Storm Frank, Desmond, Chloe and friends  have  damaged some trees and one had to come down, but never mind, the sweetpeas are growing away like mad in the tunnel and so is winter lettuce and radishes. Everytime I go to look at the tunnel something new is emerging. The daffodils and tulips are begining to peep out and they provide  a welcome shot of colour in the near future. The green manure has grown really well and I am hopeful that it will do its job and feed the soil well for the new growing season. Paper gardening is a winter joy, planning the colour schemes for the summer garden, reading  seed catalogues where the promise of abundant flowers and rampant self-seeders is seductive!
